About Me
Hi, I’m Dot McCormack! I'm a Bristol-based photographer and videographer creating bold, character-driven visuals; specialising in shooting portraits and headshots for creatives.
Trained at the Northern Film School in Leeds, I look for a story in everything I shoot, and love working with individuals to bring out their inner confidence and guide them to put their best face forward in photos.
My work is rooted in collaboration and shaped by Bristol’s vibrant community, where my career began.
I love making colourful, honest work that feels unapologetically you.
Career Highlights
Some of my career highlights include my work being featured in multiple exhibitions and publications such as: April Showers Publishing, Cellar Door, Snapshot Collab, Bristol 24/7 and Bristol Old Vic Theatre Programmes, my short film 'Objects of Desire' screening at BFI Southbank as part of their Woman with a Movie Camera summit, and continued collaborations with my favourite Bristol musicians, actors and art makers - in the studio, on stage and behind the scenes.
WHAT IS IT LIKE WORKING WITH ME?
I love people, creativity and storytelling. I am always on the lookout for moments and expressions that will stand out, anticipating where I'll need to be to catch them, right on time.
Working with Bristol and the South West's communities over the past few years has given me some amazing experiences - and I'm lucky to have the photos and videos to prove it!
My main aim with my visuals is to help others tell their stories, promote inclusivity and express themselves creatively.
I'm also working on showing the world that any outfit can go with the New Balance trainers I was told to wear in film school.
Expect a friendly face, lots of crouching and top notch results (but don't just take my word for it)!
Being neurodivergent and queer, I know first hand how important it is to feel safe, informed and collaborated with in photoshoots. That's why I always offer consultation before, during and after your shoot, to give you the best support I can and achieve your creative vision.
We can adjust the pacing and guidance level, there's no pressure to mask or make eye contact, and the studio playlist is always ready for requests (or we can vibe in silence)!
I adore movies, folklore, mood-boarding and my puppy Beanie (Baby).
In portrait sessions, sometimes Beanie helps me set up and pack down, so if you're my last session of the day you're welcome to stay 5 minutes extra for cuddles, free of charge.
