headshot POSING TIPS
Most of my clients tell me in the consultation process that they are nervous or feel awkward on camera, but that dissipates really quickly once we get started and have a laugh together. Remember I’m always there to guide you.
If you’re the type of person who likes knowing what to expect before they arrive, or want to practice at home prior to your headshot session, here are some simple prompts we will be using together in the studio.
Watch the video and then tap the images below to see some directions I've given my clients!

"Look over your shoulder"
Just like a school photo, but cooler.

"Rest your chin on your hand"
We can use whatever is most comfortable for you to lean on.

"Tilt your head"
Play with different expressions, and try practicing keeping your chin down.

"Laugh with me"
Don’t worry, I’ll be doing this one too!

"Say ‘huh’"
Great for those that find it hard to relax with parted lips. I can also give you simple character types.

"Move your head in a circle"
Take it slowly and adjust if needed. Try breathing closed mouth, then open.

"Lean forward"
Pretend the camera is the audience/your client.
As you can see, people naturally end up doing multiple of these poses in the same photo.
Don't be afraid to mix and match or go with the flow!
FULL BODY POSING
Movements and ideas to play with!
stretch

Slowly stretch into different angles and trust the process.

DANCE
You don't have to be good at dancing for this one! Move slowly or go crazy, all movement works.

interact
Lean, sit on or hang off structures, play with props or make eye contact with surroundings.

look away
Great for those who are camera shy! Look away from the camera and switch up your angles.

characterise

Imagine you're in a music video, on a magazine cover or a specific character in your head.
